Project 2204: Review of coastal water quality monitoring in the Northland Region

Northland Regional Council has a broad coastal monitoring programme which provides information to assist in the management of the CMA. It was successful in securing an Envirolink Advice Grant (2204 NLRC227) to undertake the review of thier programme and contracted NIWA to provide expertise.

Project 2344: Air quality - Monitoring strategy for Westport

West Coast Regional Council (WCRC) has been undertaking studies of air quality data in Westport for over two years.  The studies have generated both spatial and temporal data.  WCRC sought assistance from Envirolink to provide funding to enable external expertise to review the data and provide future guidance for managing Westport air quality.

Project 2137: Application of LiDAR differencing to assess sediment load for the Upper Waipaoa River

GDC is exploring ways to maximise the value of its investment in capturing airborne LiDAR and wanted to assess the potential to use large-scale LiDAR differencing to assess the environmental risks (particularly the enhanced risk of flooding) associated with the changing sediment supply to the aipaoa River Flood Control Scheme.

Project 2116: Climate change projections and impacts for Marlborough

To build on international and national work, Marlborough District Council (MDC) were interested in a more detailed regional-scale analysis of climate projections for the Marlborough region.   To facilitate this work MDC secured an Envirolink Advice Grant (2116 MLDC157) and contracted NIWA to provide their expertise.

Project 1915: Improving estuary water quality monitoring in Nelson

Nelson City Council is taking a closer look at how much sediment is flowing from rivers into the region’s estuaries as part of a programme to improve estuarine water quality monitoring.  Measuring river sediment loads to estuaries is one of a number of recommendations being considered by the Council, following their commission of an Envirolink-funded report.

Project 1849: Making dune lakes more swimmable

Horizons Regional Council is taking steps to turn around the declining health of dune lakes in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, thanks in part to an Envirolink report.  The Manawatū-Whanganui region has about 60 dune lakes – unique lakes located in old sand dunes inland along the west coast – with many of them in critically poor and declining health.
